As the trees bloom and the days stretch longer, May might just be my favorite month in Connecticut. It’s that perfect mix of sunshine, spring flowers, and excitement as we all finally emerge from hibernation. As a local real estate agent and proud dad of three young kids, I always try to carve out time in May to enjoy all the incredible things happening right here in Hartford County. Whether you’re a fellow parent looking for family outings or just someone who loves the local scene, here’s what I’m most excited about this month.

1. Tulip Time at Wicked Tulips Flower Farm (early May)
Located in Preston, just a short drive from Glastonbury, this pick-your-own tulip farm is a spring dream come true. With over 600,000 blooming tulips and wide open fields perfect for the kids to run around in, it’s a great way to spend a sunny afternoon. Pro tip: buy your tickets online ahead of time—they often sell out!

2. Hanging at Talcott Mountain Collective (Simsbury)
One of my favorite low-key hangouts, especially when the weather’s nice. With lawn games, food trucks, live music, and local craft brews, it’s the kind of spot where you can kick back while the kids run around freely. The views of Talcott Mountain are incredible, and there’s just something about that community vibe that feels like summer is officially here.
3. Celebrate West Hartford Preview and Farmers Markets Begin!
The West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square start to buzz again in May with early summer markets, food trucks, and music popping up on the weekends. If you love discovering local artisans and fresh Connecticut produce, this is a great time to check out what’s growing.

4. Hiking & Picnics in Case Mountain (Manchester)
One of my favorite places for a quick nature escape. The hike to the summit is easy enough for little legs, and the view of Hartford in the distance is always worth it. May is perfect for wildflowers, and the trails are usually dry and kid-friendly.
5. Backyard BBQs & Neighborhood Open Houses
Okay, maybe this one’s a bit of a real estate plug—but honestly, May is a fantastic month to check out open houses. The lawns are green, flowers are blooming, and homes just show better. I’ll be hosting a few in Glastonbury and the surrounding towns this month, and I’d love to see you drop by (even if it’s just to say hi and let the kids grab a cookie).
Let’s Make the Most of May
Whether you're catching a sunrise hike, enjoying a scoop of gelato on Main Street in Glastonbury, or just playing catch in the yard, May is full of little moments that remind us why we love living in Hartford County.
If you’re curious about what’s happening in the local market or want recommendations on neighborhoods that fit your family’s lifestyle, I’m always happy to chat—real estate is what I do, but building a life here is what I love.
See you around town!
